Philadelphia Eagles welcome the Washington Football Team to the Lincoln Financial Field on Monday evening. The NFL has re-scheduled the game so that it is now the televised Monday Night Football game. The away team have the opportunity to beat the bottom-placed team in the division and claim the NFC East title. The Eagles will just be looking to get their dreadful season over with as fast as possible. Washington to rediscover some form as they have lost their last two games and will want to build momentum for their possible play-off campaign.
Washington needs a win
The pressure really is on Washington in Monday’s game with the men from Virginia knowing that only a victory can guarantee them the NFC East crown and a play-off place. If the Eagles somehow manage to win then it will be the winner of Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants game that wins the division instead. They blew the chance to clinch the divisional title when they lost 20-13 at home to the Carolina Panthers. At one stage, they were losing 20-0, with Dwayne Haskins really struggling at quarterback.
Haskins was not suspended for the game, though he was fined $40,000 and lost his place as team captain after breaching COVID-19 protocols earlier in the week. He did not take the opportunity to right those wrongs on Sunday, completing just 50% of his passes for 154 yards before making way for Taylor Heinicke.
While Washington is looking for some glory, it might actually be in the Eagles’ interest to lose the game. That is because a defeat will improve their draft options for next season. They have clinched a top-10 draft pick already, of course, but if they lose on Sunday they will improve that further by jumping ahead of any other four-win NFL teams in the draft order. Pride dictates that the Eagles players will be trying their hardest to win the game, but the fans might think differently, especially after such a dreadful 2020 for the team.
Our Pick: Washington to win
Or tip for this game comes from 888Sport, where you can find odds of +102 on Washington winning on Monday. Although they have not looked great in recent weeks, the replacement of Haskins with Heinicke might just have come at the right time for the team. We think that the chance of winning the NFC East will provide sufficient motivation for them to edge past a poor Eagles team and reach the post-season. We do not expect it to a thriller for the Monday Night Football TV viewers, though.
Our pick: Washington @ +102 with 888Sport
