It’s an all NFC West match-up in Inglewood on Sunday, with the San Francisco 49ers travelling to face the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The 49ers had a bye weekend last week, so will be fresher than their hosts, who are one of the stronger defensive teams in the NFL right now. The Rams are coming off a short week, though, having beaten Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday. How that affects them remains to be seen, but this should be an interesting game for the fans.
49ers Battling Injury
The 49ers have been hampered this season by a cripplingly long injury list. There are currently 31 49ers on the injured list - a tally that any team would struggle to cope with. Raheem Mostert, Deebo Samuel and Richard Sherman are set to return to action this weekend, however, which will give SF a boost. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle are still missing, though. They head into this game on the back of three consecutive defeats and will want to return to form as soon as possible.
The Rams won 27-24 at Tampa Bay on Monday night, with Jared Goff on form. The quarterback threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns, though he was intercepted twice. On defense, safety Jordan Fuller was able to intercept the legendary Tom Brady twice, with his second proving crucial to the outcome of the game. Two Rams wide receivers were also on form that night. Cooper Kupp made 11 catches for 145 yards, while Robert Woods made 12 catches for 130 yards and one touchdown.
The 49ers will have Nick Mullens stepping in at QB again with Garoppolo still out injured. Mullens has thrown for 1,390 yards this season, for six touchdowns and six interceptions. But the problem for 49ers is still that injury list – on defense their first-choice starting front and their back ups are all missing. That makes the Rams favorites in our view.
Our Pick: Rams win by 7-12
Our tip for this game comes from 888Sport, who are offering tempting odds of +390 on the Rams winning by seven to 12 points this Sunday. Although the Rams are coming off a short week and the 49ers had a bye last weekend, San Francisco’s injury list is so long, and includes so many key players, that we are struggling to see a way for them to win. We predict that Jared Goff will lead his team to what could be a key victory in their push to top the NFC West.
Our pick: Rams by 7-12 @ +390 with 888Sport
