We’re entering the third round of the 2020 MLS campaign, and we’re continuing to bring you the very best soccer picks and tips here at CaptainGambling. We’re now turning our attention to Sunday’s games, with some absolute doozies laying in wait for us.
For today’s MLS soccer betting tips, we’re focussing on a clash of two Eastern Conference rivals, as Philadelphia Union host New York FC. There’s no love lost between these two and we think you’re in for a treat.
It hasn’t been a great start to the 2021 MLS season for Philadelphia Union, who have just one point from their opening two games. Their last fixture was a home tie loss against Inter Miami, who are owned by David Beckham and coached by his ex-Manchester United team mate Phil Neville. Their opening game was a boring, but commendable tie against 2020 MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew. This went well for the Union in the midweek though, as they sunk Atlanta United 3-0 with an away win in the CONCACAF Champions League with two goals coming from Polish striker Kacper Przybyłko.
After a losing start to the 2021 season vs DC United, New York City bounced back with avengence, thrashing FC Cincinnati 5-0 in the Big Apple last weekend. Paraguayan winger Jesús Medina is showing early signs of having stepped up another level this season, and scored two of City’s five last weekend. The 23 year old looks almost certain to improve on his stats last year of five goals and two assists across the campaign. Coach Ronie Delia will be hoping to improve on his first season in charge, where he made his team made the playoffs but lost in the first round.
Despite being second favorites for this tie, New York City have by far the better of Philadelphia Union in the head to head record. Still, last time these two side met, it was Philly who came out on top with a 0-1 road victory at the Yankee Stadium. Prior to that, the previous four matches all belonged to New York City FC, who will be hoping to return to get back on top of this rival tie this Sunday.
If you scroll down you can find all of the need to know statistical infor surrounding this match, including the last five head to head results as well as the points and stats so far this season. We’ve used this information and our expert analysis to bring you our betting tip for this one.
We’re going against the bookies with this one and calling an away win for New York FC.
We’re really not sure why the bookies have Philadelphia Union has the outstanding favorites. They haven’t had the best of starts this campaign and the 3-0 road victory vs Atlanta in the Champions League midweek flatters the Union, as Atlanta were by far the better looking team on the field. New York look like they’ll reach the next stage of development under Ronnie Delia, who is in his second season in the job.
We’re calling the bookies out on this one and backing the away win at odds of +225 with DratKings.
