Welcome back! At CaptainGambling, we’re always committed to providing you with the most well-researched tips for any sport you like.
And today, we have a weekend tip for the MLB fans. We’re in the final stretch of the season; hence there’s no better time to place baseball than this. Two teams have already grabbed a spot in the postseason, the Giants & the Dodgers. But that’s not why we are here. Up next, our tip for the weekend!
The Mets will take on the Philadelphia Phillies at home (Citi Field in Flushing, Queens) for a three-match series that starts on Friday. The Phillies are second in the National League East rankings with a pct 0.503. They’re followed by the Mets, who have a pct of 0.49. Generally, this season, the Phillies have won 73 times and lost 72 times, while the Mets have won 72 times and lost 75 times.
With the results they’ve been getting recently, it doesn’t seem like they’ll win their division. The team suffered three defeats in a row at home against the Cardinals, which sums up their performance in the last few days. In the previous ten games, the Mets have managed to secure only three wins.
Generally, the team has been fantastic in pitching this season. They rank among the top 10 in the runs allowed, ERA, home runs allowed, runs allowed, batting average against, WHIP, and walks allowed.
In the offense, the team has not been as impressive. They rank among the bottom 10 in OPS, SLG, and home runs. Also, they are among the bottom five in RBI’s, hits, and runs.
Just like the Mets, the Phillies’ most recent results will be something that’s worrying the fans - they’ve also managed to win once in the last ten games. Generally, the team has been mediocre in pitching this season. They rank average for runs allowed, hits allowed, home runs allowed, ERA, WHIP, walks allowed, and batting average against. They also rank among the top ten in strikeouts.
The team has also been performing averagely on offense. The Phillies are among the middle teams in home runs, hits, runs, batting average, RBI’s, SLG, OBP, and OPS.
In 2021 alone, these teams have clashed 16 times. The Phillies have won eight times and lost eight times to the Mets. Only four of these fixtures ended over 8 (total runs). Also, nine of these games ended with one team winning by two or more runs (run-line).
Throughout this season, the Phillies have won 73 games and lost 72 games. Their home record is 41 - 32. On the other hand, the New York Mets have recorded 72 wins and 75 losses. Their home record is 43 - 31.
Looking at the overall stats of these teams, it’s evident that they are performing at almost the same level. Both teams have secured just three wins in the last ten games each has played, making it even harder to tip one team for a direct win.
However, for the totals, it’s a different story. The Mets have been very poor in offense throughout the season. They are among the bottom five teams in terms of hits, runs, and RBI’s. Also, they rank among the bottom 10 when it comes to OPS, SLG, and home runs. This means they’re unlikely to earn many runs in this fixture. On the other hand, the Phillies have also been very average in pitching this season.
Besides, If we look at the H2H stats, eight of the last ten fixtures between these teams have gone under 8.5 (totals).
Therefore we’ll tip this game to end under 7.5.
There are a couple of reasons that made us choose under 7.5 for this fixture. Let’s have a look at some of the main ones.
There were several bookies offering odds for this fixture. After keenly comparing them, we settled on BetMGM which provides odds of -115 for under 7.5.
