Seattle Seahawks travel to Los Angeles this weekend to take on the Rams in what should be an entertaining clash. Recent history between the teams is very much on the side of the hosts, who have won four out of the last five match-ups. Seattle currently top the NFC West with their 6-2 record, while the Rams are third in the division with a 5-3 record, making this game crucial to both teams’ chances of making the play-offs. The bookies make the Rams slight favorites but it could well be a very close contest indeed.
Wilson versus Donald
The Seattle Seahawks lead the NFC West, which is somewhat surprising if you dig into their defensive stats. The men from Washington State have given up more yards than any other team in the NFL in 2020, allowing an average of 455.8 yards per game. That kind of poor record in defense must mean that they have a strong offense to have won so many games, and quarterback Russell Wilson is the lynchpin of that offense. He has thrown a total of 297 passes this season, completing 211 of them, for 2541 yards and 28 touchdowns. That kind of offensive ability did nothing to compensate for the Seahawks’ poor defense last time out, however, with the Buffalo Bills beating them 44-34. Wilson was slightly below-par in that game, and he faces a tough challenge this Sunday, with the Rams possessing a mean defense.
Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is a contender for the Defensive Player of the Year, and if he and his team-mates can get to Wilson then the Californian team have to be in the running for the win. The Rams were left scratching their heads in confusion after their last game, when they made 471 yards in contrast to Miami’s 145 yet still lost by 11 points. They are still the league’s second-best defense when it comes to both points and yards allowed, though, and had a bye last week so have had plenty of time to prepare a gameplan to combat the Seahawks.
Our Pick: Rams to win by 7-12 points
Our feeling for this game is that the Rams’ defense will out play the Seahawks’ offense and help the Californians return to winning ways. As well as their mean defense, the Rams rank sixth in the NFL on offense for yards per game with 396.4 and that should be enough to take them to victory. We are backing the Rams to win by seven to 12 points, a market on which 888Sport are offering tempting odds of +500. We back Aaron Donald to help snuff out the threat posed by Russell Wilson.
Our pick: Rams by 7-12 @ +500 with 888Sport
