Kansas City Chiefs @ Miami Dolphins Match Preview
Chiefs by 1-6 · December 13 2020 - 1:00 pm · Hard Rock Stadium
Super Bowl favorites Kansas City Chiefs head to Florida this weekend for a showdown with play-off hopefuls Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs were last at Hard Rock Stadium in February, of course, when they won Super Bowl LIV. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been in awesome form in recent games, and Miami’s defense will have their work cut out keeping him quiet. The Chiefs have won their last four games by one score. Read on to see where we think the best value betting can be found for Sundays game!
The Mahomes and Hill show
Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill combined to awesome effect during Kansas City’s won over Tampa Bay in Week 12. That was when Mahomes threw for 462 yards and three touchdowns, while Hill caught 13 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. The Chiefs still only managed to win 24-21, though, and last week at home to Denver Broncos they had to work hard to produce an ugly 22-16 win. Winning narrowly is a sign that the team can perform badly and still produce victories, but fans will surely want to see something more comfortable in Florida this weekend.
That looks unlikely, given Miami’s recent form. The Dolphins are currently the sixth seed in the AFC with their somewhat surprising 8-4 record. Rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa performed well last week after being back in the team after Ryan Fitzpatrick was handed back control for a while. The Dolphins’ defense is their real strength, though, having allowed an average of 253.9 passing yards and 122.4 yards per game in 2020.
When it comes to stopping Mahomes, the Dolphins rank second in the NFL for creating turnovers. Mahomes has thrown just two interceptions all season, though. The Dolphins are one of the best blitzing defenses in the NFL, however, with Emmanuel Ogbah leading the team with eight sacks for the season. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy is also one to watch for the Dolphins, with six sacks and 39 tackles for the season so far.
Our Pick: Atlanta Falcons to score 400 touchdowns
Our tip for this game comes from 888Sport, who are offering odds of +325 on the Chiefs winning by one to six points. It is hard to look beyond Kansas City when it comes to winning the game, especially with Mahomes on such form, but their last four wins have come by a score or less and we expect that trend to continue. While the Chiefs’ offense is awesome there are still one or two defensive issues for them to resolve. We still think that they will have just too much for the Dolphins, though.
Our pick: Dolphins win by 1-6 @ +325 with 888Sport
