Cleveland Browns continue their remarkable season when they travel to the hotly fancied Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. The Browns reached this point thanks to their first play-off win since 1994, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in a thrilling game last weekend. They are now up against the NFC’s top side in the shape of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs had a rest last week thanks to their bye so will be well rested for this clash. Read on to see where we think the game’s key match-ups are!
Will the Chiefs beat themselves?
Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce have all enjoyed fantastic seasons for the Chiefs offense, and they will all be feeling fresh after a bye week. That should really concern the Browns, who are possibly as surprised as anyone to find themselves at this stage of the play-offs. Some pundits have stated that the Browns’ only chance is to hope that the Chiefs beat themselves with an over-ambitious gameplan and concede plenty of penalties and turnovers. That’s what happened with the Steelers last week, though, so hoping for lightning to strike twice may be in vain.
But the Chiefs do have something of a problem with giving away penalties. They committed 105 penalties in the regular season, a tally that was the fourth-highest in the NFL. In total, they had 310 yards of offense wiped out by penalties, something that offers a sliver of hope to the Browns. Cleveland is up against a truly awesome offense, though. Mahomes and his compadres produced 69 passing plays of 20 or more yards in the regular season, second in the NFL only to the Houston Texans who managed one more. The Chiefs also led the league with 415.8 total yards per game, and averaged 303.4 yards passing per game – also the highest in the NFL. The Browns have struggled against the pass all season, and gave up over 500 yards to Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers last week, even though they won. That does not bode well for them this weekend.
Our Pick: Chiefs against a -11.5 points spread
We suspect that Patrick Mahomes and his Chiefs are going to run riot this weekend against a Browns team that already really won its Super Bowl in beating Pittsburgh. The offensive strength of the Chiefs makes us think that there is going to be a big score in their favor. So our tip, which comes from 888Sport, is to back the Chiefs against an -11.5 points spread at odds of +110. That bet offers pretty tempting value on a day when it is hard to bet against Kansas City.
