The San Francisco 49ers have moved to Arizona temporarily, after restrictions on team sports were put in place in Santa Clara County, California. That means that they will welcome the Buffalo Bills to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Monday night, a venue that usually houses the Arizona Cardinals. The Bills have a terrible recent record in Monday night football, but they do top the AFC East with an 8-3 record. The 49ers (5-6) sit at the foot of the NFC West. Read on to see where we think the best betting value for this game can be found!
Bills never win on Mondays
Over the last five years, the Buffalo Bills have lost four straight Monday night games. The 49ers have been hit hard by injuries this season, though, and it is impressive that their play-off hopes are still alive. Raheem Mostert and Deebo Samuel are no back in action and that should help San Francisco considerably.
The 49ers received a boost last week when corner back Richard Sherman returned to action in the win over the LA Rams. He intercepted Jared Goff and also led the team in tackles for the game. The 49ers defense had a good game last week, restricting Goff to under 200 yards passing with no touchdowns and just 6.4 yards per attempt. If the defense can repeat that kind of performance this week then San Francisco has a great chance of winning.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen will need to play well if the Bills want to win. His season so far has been a little up and down, but he has an overall rating of 102.3, having passed for 3028 yards and 22 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. His relationship with wide receiver Stefon Diggs is a key component of the Bills offense. Diggs has made 80 catches for 945 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. Neither looked particularly impressive against the LA Chargers last week, however.
If the passing game doesn’t fire properly then the Bills can try rushing. Devin Singletary rushed for 82 yards on 11 carries last week, with Zack Moss also chipping in. The 49ers defend well against the rush, though, allowing an average of just four yards per carry this season, the eighth-best in the NFL.
Our Pick: 49ers to win by 1-6 points
Our tip for this game comes from 888Sport, where you can find odds of +340 for the 49ers to win by one to six points. We think that the game is going to be close, especially as the 49ers will be playing in unfamiliar surroundings. Momentum is picking up for the men from California, though, and with the likes of Sherman returning to action we suspect that they will be able to to shut down the Allen and Diggs combination. It will be tight, though, and we don’t expect many points will be scored in Glendale on Monday.
Our pick: 49ers to win by 1-6 @ +340 with 888Sport
