It’s been an interesting week in the MLB. And it can only get better. The Giants remain at the top of the table after displaying good and consistent results throughout the week. Although the Orioles thrashed the Angels 13 - 1 in the most recent fixture, they remain at the bottom of the table with a total of 40W and 86L. That said, up next is our MLB tip for the week!
Today we will be looking at two mid-table MLB teams that show a lot of similarity in how they play - the Angels vs. the Padres. These teams are set to face each other at the Angel Stadium on Saturday at 9.07 PM EST.
As we had already stated, both teams show much resemblance in playing style, which can be further confirmed by how they rank. The Angels are at position 18 in the MLB table with a winning percentage (PCT) of 0.488. On the other hand, the Padres are at position 13 with a PCT of 0.527. The Angels have won 63 and lost 66 fixtures, while the Padres have won 68 and lost 61 fixtures this season.
The Angels’ form seems to have gone down, as can be confirmed by the performance they’ve displayed in the last five games - they’ve only managed to get a single win (8 - 14 against the Orioles). In their previous ten games, they’ve won four times and lost six times.
Still going with the previous ten games, six went over 8.5 in terms of total runs. Interestingly, in nine out of the last ten fixtures, the Angels either won or lost by two or more runs.
Just as it is with the Angels, the Padre’s current form is something that must be worrying its fans. Since winning against the Phillies (4 - 1) on Aug 21, the Padres have followed that with a four-game losing streak. To make the story worse, they’ve only won twice in the last ten fixtures.
Let’s now look at the totals. In the last ten games, the Padres have had five games go over 8.5 runs. Also, in seven of those games, the Padres either won or lost by two or more runs.
Since March 2019, these teams have clashed 12 times, with the Padres winning eight times. Only four games went over 8.5. In addition, either team won/lost by two or more runs in nine games of those games.
These are two mid-table teams that are performing almost equally in the current MLB season. Also, both teams seem to have dipped in form, as shown by the results they’ve displayed in the last ten games.
However, the Angels have won more games (4) in the last ten games than the Padres, who’ve won just two. In the H2H stats, the Padres have won more times (8) compared to the Angels (4) in the last 12 fixtures. The number of games that go over 8.5 in any fixture these teams play seems to be balanced ( 4 - 6).
There’s no doubt that the MLB season has been very unpredictable this season. And that makes it even harder to tip one team for a win in this fixture since they almost resemble each other in performance.
That said, for this game, we’ll go for an under 8.5 - most of the games that these teams play usually end under 8.5.
Two main factors made us go for under 8.5 in this game. Let’s have a look at them.
We looked online for a great betting operator offering the best odds for this match and settled on BetMGM as the best operator. It gives odds of 1.87 (-115) for under 8.5.
