The Kaepernick Rankings: The Not-So-Fantastic Four in Week 5

Publish Date: 10/10/2017
Fact checked by: Mark Lewis

This week, the football gods continued to help Colin Kaepernick’s case to be on an NFL roster. Although that may not materialize for quite some time, it was refreshing to see that there are several quarterbacks, who aren’t equipped to lead a football as Kap once did.

Collectively, this week was the worst output for quarterbacks this season. There were several candidates could have graced this list, but I decided to keep it short with the not-so-fantastic four.

That said, let’s look at Week 5’s edition of the Kaepernick Rankings.

The Player: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
The Box Score: 33/55, 312 Yards, 5 Interceptions, 22.2 QBR

Before Steeler Nation throws its Terrible Towels at me, I know Ben Roethlisberger is far and away a better quarterback than Kaepernick.

That doesn’t mean that we won’t call him out when he stinks it up, just as he did this past Sunday. Prior to the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the two-time Super Bowl champion called out his No.1 target, Antonio Brown for creating distractions. Ironically, after airing out Brown, he threw a career-worst 5 interceptions.

The Steelers hasn’t looked like the Super Bowl contender that many pegged them to be. Whether he likes it or not, Big Ben deserves some of the blame. Maybe rumors of Ben not wanting to play appears to be truer than what people think. I know someone who would love to be in the NFL right now, and that person is the namesake of our rankings.

The Player: Jay Cutler, Miami Dolphins
The Box Score: 12/26, 92 Yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, QBR 6.5

You know it’s bad if fans are calling for backup quarterback Matt Moore to play over Cutler. Not to throw shade to Moore, but Moore isn't the quarterback you want leading your team. After shaking off the boo-birds, Cutler led the Dolphins to a win. Although Miami won, he had a horrid outing. At this rate, Cutler's frequently piss-poor play only indicates that the Dolphins may have brought in the wrong quarterback to replace Ryan Tannehill.

The Player: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Box Score: 8/14, 85 Yards, 1 INT, QBR 58.8

Blake Bortles needs to thank the defense (Jalen Ramsey, in particular) and Leonard Fournette for saving the day. The Jaguars defeated the Steelers thanks to a stout defense giving Ben Roethlisberger absolute hell, and a heavy dose of Fournette in the running game. Although Jacksonville left Heinz Field with a victory, Bortles had little to do with the outcome. For instance, the Jaguars did not throw a pass in the last 23 minutes of the game. Talk about trusting your quarterback.

The Player: Matt Cassel, Tennessee Titans
The Box Score: 21/32, 141 Yards, 1 TD, 16.8 QBR

I’ll let this tweet to show how bad Cassel was. Viewer discretion advised.
