I imagine St. Louis Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins went into the game versus the Carolina Panthers with good intentions as he tried to use the internet to dig up intel on the life of Steve Smith. This is common stuff in the competitive landscape of the NFL, dig up some dirt on your opponent, try to rattle that person’s cage. Unfortunately, Janoris Jenkins must’ve missed something in his research, because the guy most people affectionally call #89 is friggin’ insane and he’s 110% about that life.
Such is life for Jenkins on Sunday afternoon, as Steve Smith had had enough of Jenkins’ hijinks and proceeded to take the young fella to school. That is, if taking someone to school means adding a notch to the proverbial bedpost, paying the proper respect to Deion Sanders and referring to Jenkins as his dog that he has to rub said dog’s face in the ground that he peed on.
Here’s the transcript of the post-game interview between the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones and the guy I respectfully call #89:
Reporter: Take us through the touchdown, looks like you made some guys missed.
#89: I’ll let Janoris Jenkins go over it on film on Monday.
Reporter: Did you point to him?
#89: Yes, I directly pointed to him.
Reporter: Did you think you’d get a taunting penalty?
#89: Don’t give a damn.
Reporter: What was the dance you did?
#89: Well he thinks he’s Deion (Sanders). He’s not.
Reporter: To get your 800th catch against him…
#89: He’s just another notch on the bedpost. That’s 800. He ain’t no different.
Reporter: For your 800th to be a touchdown, what’s that mean to you?
#89: Just another dude.
Reporter: Did you have any run-ins with him before?
#89: No. What I don’t like is a young guy, comes in, obviously his first time ever using the internet and Google, and he Googles information about me, talks about my wife and stuff like that. That’s kind of some of the (B.S). I just don’t play with.
Reporter: What specifically was he saying?
#89: That’s all I’m going to say. I don’t play them games. When you try to take it personal like that, I don’t have any great humbling things to say. So he can take his (butt) back to St. Louis and watch the (expletive) film because I don’t play them games. And if I see him in the streets I’m going to punch him in his (expletive) mouth.
Reporter: On your touchdown celebration, was that a little bit extra?
#89: When you embarrass people you rub it in their face. When your dog (urinates) on the carpet, you rub it in his face.
Janoris, I’m gonna suggest that you stay off the streets that Steve Smith frequents sir. This is for your own good.
