I was having a conversation with a fellow sneakerhead during a holiday party this past Friday and one of the talking points revolved around Nike's Air Force 1. I mentioned how I really wanted a pair of Sbeed AF1's (because Sheed is what that is) and when I said that the man almost sneered at me.
They're way too heavy.
Now, the man who said this was no more than 5'6" and 150 pounds while I'm about seven inches taller and a 100+ pounds heavier, so its something I've never really worried about with my kicks too much.
Nike might have a fix for my fellow sneakerhead's issues, as they're introducing us to the new extended family of the Air Force 1:
After 30 years on top, defining the apex of street and sport, court and culture, the Nike Air Force 1 catapults into the future. No longer a solitary style icon, the Nike Air Force 1 is now about something bigger. It’s about a family. It’s about the classic sneaker’s singular DNA, combining with Nike innovation to define a new generation: a Family of Force. Each member recognizes the heritage that has made the Nike Air Force 1 a coveted classic, but also celebrates its own unique, innovation-driven look and character. Bound by three core design principles—lightweight, breathability and comfort, achieved through the integration of Nike’s Hyperfuse construction and Lunarlon cushioning in some cases—these new relations represent the future of the Nike Air Force 1, joining the thousands of iterations that have elevated the sneaker to collector status. It’s not about replacing the past; it’s about dominating the future. Meet the family’s newest members.
If you're in NYC, you can check out the new additions first hand at Nike's pop-up store Pivot Point, which will be open for a limited time at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Pivot Point is located at 620 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217 and will open to the public beginning Dec. 11 through Dec. 23 from 12 PM – 7 PM daily.
