The wait is over – Vermont sports betting officially launched on January 11th, 2024. Now, you’ll find three great sportsbooks armed with a legitimate license, an impressive welcome bonus, and streams of betting opportunities.
It hasn’t always been plain sailing, though. This is the fourth bill that has been put forward in an attempt to legalize sports betting in Vermont. With our finger firmly on the pulse, our task is to now help you find an online sportsbook in Vermont that ticks all of your boxes.
Long gone are the days of solely relying on daily fantasy sports contests to try your best at becoming ‘coach’ for the day – as of January 11th, 2024, online sports gambling is deemed legal in Vermont.
As things stand, you’ll be able to join one of three top Vermont sportsbooks, provided you are physically located in the Green Mountain State and are over the legal age of 21. Depending on your chosen sportsbook, you’ll find that you can benefit from depositing, betting, and withdrawing at sports betting apps in Vermont, too. However, there is no chance of currently visiting a retail site.
It hasn’t always been so easy to get your hands on Vermont sports betting promos. As a matter of fact, there have been four failed attempts at legalizing online sportsbooks and sports betting apps in Vermont, starting all the way back in 2019.
Back then, Bill H484 was introduced. This bill was focused on legalizing both retail and online sports betting. However, with just one look, it was dismissed. Then, in 2020, two additional sports betting bills were put forward.
The first was Bill S213. This bill excused retail betting and focused solely on mobile betting in Vermont. It also suggested scrapping the $5,000 annual fee attached to daily fantasy sports sites and opting to tax both DFS and sports betting platforms 10% instead. As with Bill H484, Bill S213 was soon shunned. A third bill – S59 – was then introduced in March. This was passed through the Senate to the House but failed to go any further.
Nearly a year later, SB 77 was put forward. This bill proposed that sports betting could be legalized under the Department of Liquor and Lottery and would allow for six online sportsbooks to launch. The Bill was viewed but was soon stopped in its tracks.
By June of the same year, Vermont passed HB 313. This act made amendments to the laws surrounding alcohol in Vermont and also required a sports betting study to take place. This study was then completed in October.
It took until February 2023 for any updates to come. Bill H127 had now been proposed, suggesting that between 2 and 6 online sportsbooks in Vermont would be eligible to open. The bill also unified the gambling age in Vermont, requiring DFS players and sports bettors to be at least 21 years of age. The Bill was passed to the Senate in May and was signed into law by Senate Gov. Phill Scott, in June.
On January 11th, 2024, the very first online sports betting sites in Vermont launched. DraftKings, Fanduel, and Fanatics lead the way; however, a total of six have the potential to go live throughout the year.
There are a number of reasons why online sports betting in Vermont was legalized. To begin, it provides a great opportunity for the state to provide residents with a source of entertainment while also managing to create funds that can be put to good use. It is already predicted that the first year of sports betting in Vermont will generate between $2-3 million that will be put towards the state’s problem gambling fund. Over time, this could increase to between $10-$15 million per year.
Additionally, it isn’t like Vermont sports fans aren’t already betting on sports – it just so happens that it has been at offshore sites or at sites legalized in other states without any consumer protection. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense as to why the state would legalize sports betting in Vermont, creating a safe, secure, and audited way for bettors to wager online.
Compared with other US states, Vermont provides an impressive selection of sports and betting markets. Unsurprisingly, you’ll find that you can bet on all common markets, such as moneylines, spreads, futures, over/unders, and props. However, you’ll also have the opportunity to benefit from updated stats and competitive odds from the live betting section of your chosen sportsbook.
So far as sports leagues and competitions are concerned, you’ll find that all major sports, national events, and regional tournaments are covered. Plus, provided they are playing in a tournament, college teams can also be wagered on here.
Sports betting market | Explanation | Example |
---|---|---|
Moneyline | The moneyline is the most basic bet you will come across. It will allow you to wager on who you think will win each match | A bet on the New England Patriots to beat the Cincinnati Bengals |
Spread | A spread is very similar to the moneyline. However, a points advantage/disadvantage is added to even the odds | A bet on the Cincinnati Bengals (+8) to beat the New England Patriots with |
Over/under | The over/under market focuses on whether the combined total of a match will be over/under a certain value | A bet on over 42.5 points being scored in the match between the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals |

Although they don’t provide you with any guarantees, bonuses and promotions play a huge part in the selection process. So, when reviewing Vermont sportsbooks it pays to have a little information on the types of bonuses provided.
As a welcome bonus, most online sportsbooks have opted to keep things simple by providing you with bonus bets to use freely across the site. However, as the initial buzz starts to settle, you’ll find alternative promotions begin to steal the show.
Bonus Type | Explanation | Example |
---|---|---|

No deposit | The no deposit bonus is often much smaller, but provides you with bonus bets without ever making a deposit | $20 in bonus bets to use across the sportsbook |
First bet offer | The first bet offer only provides you with a bonus if your first bet loses. If not, you’ll walk away with your winnings | $50 in bonus bets, if your first bet fails |
