Friday, January 28 saw the official launch of legal sports betting in Louisiana, with a total of six sportsbooks going live.
DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, BetRivers, and Barstool Sportsbook are all now available for players aged 21 and over in the 55 out of 64 Louisiana parishes that voted in favor of sports betting. You can check out what Louisiana betting bonuses are available with each sportsbook here.
If you live in one of the parishes that voted against Senate Bill 247, you can still sign up to one of the above sportsbooks, however, you will have to cross over into a legal parish in order to actually place a wager. As well as pro sports, LA residents can also bet on collegiate sports, including Louisiana-based teams.
In short, yes there are. Louisiana has left scope for the state to become one of the most competitive betting markets in the US. According to the regulatory rules, Louisiana's Gaming Control Board is permitted to license up to 41 sportsbooks in the Creole State.
When they will launch, and how many will launch remains to be seen. However, it is thought that we will definitely see a handful of new LA sportsbooks go live throughout 2022. The names that we’re hearing are currently in pursuit of licenses are TwinSpires, Boyd Sportsbook, and Betfred - which is a giant of the UK betting scene, which got a foothold in the US market by launching in Colorado, Iowa, and Pennsylvania.
In the meantime, you can check out the bonuses and offers available from the LA sportsbooks that are live right now.
With the Super Bowl just around the corner, the timing of the Louisiana sports betting launch couldn’t have been better. We particularly like the look of the Super Bowl odds being offered by BetMGM, who are currently offering a risk-free bet up to $1000 to new players in Louisiana.
