The high stakes Super High Roller Bowl poker tournament is due to return in May. But the card game contest will be taking place in an online environment in a bid to cater to social distancing guidelines.
The Super High Roller Bowl will now take place on 27 May on the PartyPoker online gaming site. This will be part of a series of games that will feature no less than 28 tournaments.
The series at PartyPoker will have an overall prize pool of $20 million, and the Super High Roller Bowl will enable poker players to pick up a share of $3 million in prize winnings.
The Super High Roller Bowl has been in existence since 2015. In less than five years, it has become famous for being one of the most exciting No Limit Hold’em poker tournaments in the world.
Recent winners have included poker legends like Brian Rast and Rainer Kempe, while Daniel Dvoress was the most recent champion of this epic card gaming event. Interestingly, the contest started with a staggering $500,000 buy-in in 2015 that has been reduced to a relatively modest $100,000 for this year’s event.
Previously, the Super High Roller Bowl has taken place in a variety of typically luxurious locations such as the Babylon Casino in Macau, the Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas, the Star Gold Coast casino in Australia and Casino Sochi in Russia.
However, Super High Roller Bowl’s true home is the glamorous Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. So it’s going to be fascinating to see how this high stakes tournament adapts to the online realm.
Fans of the Super High Roller Bowl will know that this card gaming contest is no stranger to online technologies. Prior incarnations of the contest have been sponsored by Poker Central and fans could enjoy live video streaming throughout the competition.
But by switching to PartyPoker, the organisers of the Super High Roller Bowl will be hoping that the tournament follows on from the Poker Masters contest that enjoyed great success in its new online format.
The Poker Masters tournament took place earlier this year in March, and saw large numbers of online viewers watching as players competed for the $16.5 million in guaranteed prize money. In fact, such was the success of this format that online players who signed up helped to boost the overall prize pool to well over $35 million.
The three-day event will take place from 27 to 29 May 2020. The buy-in of $100,000 might be smaller than normal, but it’s expected to be one of the poker highlights of the year.
It will be an 8-Max event that is carried out over the standard two-day freezeout format. This will bring a fitting finale to the 28-stage PartyPoker series, and it’s going to be fascinating to see who wins this massive contest.
