Marcell Ozuna 2-run homer leads to Braves 5-13 win over Dodgers

The Atlanta Braves won 5-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night after recovering from a three-run deficit, thanks to a tiebreaking homer by Marcell Ozuna in the eighth inning.

Travis d'Arnaud started the seventh inning with a double to left field off Brusdar Graterol (2-3). Ozuna then hit his 14th home run to center field.

Smith homered

To begin the eighth inning, Dodgers designated hitter Will Smith homered to left field off A.J. Minter (4-1).

Freddie Freeman had one hit and three strikeouts in the second game of his much-anticipated return to Atlanta, including a bases-loaded strikeout to end the seventh. The Braves' 2020 NL MVP appeared more at ease after his emotional return on Friday, when he received his 2021 World Series championship ring in a pregame ceremony.

Max Fried walked in 6 2/3 innings for the Braves, allowing six hits and nine strikeouts. Former Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen recorded his 19th save by striking out the side in the ninth inning, including a game-ending fastball past Trea Turner.

As the Dodgers scored two runs off Fried in the seventh, Cody Bellinger had a run-scoring single.

Meanwhile, Braves reliever Will Smith allowed Austin Barnes' run-scoring single to the right, trimming Atlanta's advantage to 3-2 before walking Turner to load the bases. Smith ended the inning by striking out Freeman.

White allows three runs

Mitch White, promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowed three runs, five hits, and two walks. White was removed after allowing singles to Ronald Acuña Jr. and Swanson to start the fourth inning. Acuña was driven in by Austin Riley's double to center field off Alex Vesia.

White was added to the rotation after left-hander Andrew Heaney was placed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation on Friday.

Braves rookie Michael Harris II led off the third inning with a double misplayed by Dodgers right fielder Trayce Thompson. Thompson took a step forward before coming to a halt, unable to recover as the liner passed over his head.

Swanson followed with a first-pitch slider 413 feet over the center-field fence for a 2-0 lead. Swanson's seventh home run of the month and 13th overall.

The game was begun by a three-person umpire crew before Alex MacKay, a late fill-in, arrived in the fourth inning. MacKay was called in when Cory Blaser could not continue the game due to medical reasons.

Hudson enters the injured list

Right-handed pitcher for the Dodgers Daniel Hudson's season has been cut short due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. Hudson's knee buckled in the eighth inning of the Braves' 4-1 victory on Friday night as he reacted to a dribbler hit by Acuña. Hudson's recovery is likely to take between six and nine months.

Eddie Rosario, Braves' outfielder, was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett for a rehab assignment because of blurry vision and swelling in his right retina. Rosario was placed on the injured list on April 25 and was expected to play in the next game against LA Dodgers.
