Louisiana sports betting is now live!
As of January 28, five sportsbooks are now live in the Creole State - DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, and BetRivers.
Louisianans aged 21 and over in 55 of the 64 parishes can now legally place a sports bet today with some awesome launch day bonuses.
With the Super Bowl fast approaching and the NBA and NHL in full swing, the timing almost couldn’t have been better.
But what’s the deal with betting on college sports in Louisiana?
Some other legal US gambling states have chosen to keep college sports betting prohibited, while others have allowed it with some major caveats. Additionally, there are some states that allow wagers on collegiate sporting events with much the same rules as they have for professional sports.
So what category has Louisiana fallen into - let’s find out…
The shortest (and sweetest) answer that we can give you here is yes, it is. The five sportsbooks now live in LA state can all legally offer betting markets on collegiate sports events.
That means that you will be able to be on march madness with a Louisiana sportsbook in 2022 - guess the Super Bowl isn’t the only thing you need to get excited about!
There’s good news here again, as Louisana has taken a more liberal stance with regards to collegiate sports betting.
Gamblers in Louisiana will be allowed to bet on teams based in the state, including the Ragin Cajuns, LSU Tigers, and more.
Many other gambling states, even those with an otherwise more liberal take on gambling - such as New Jersey - do not permit betting on teams based in their state.
High school sports and other youth sporting events will remain illegal to bet on. Additionally, the athletes, coaches, and referees involved in games will not be allowed to bet on them. Athletes, coaches, and referees can, however, still bet on games in which they are not involved.
The bottom line is that the same rules apply to betting on college and pro sports - you can check out full details of the Louisiana sports betting rules here.
