New York sports betting is here and has seen the biggest opening numbers of any legal US gambling state since it launched on January 8.
A total of four operators were approved by the New York State Gaming Commission for the launch day, with a further five set to go live this year, subject to regulatory requirements.
Some of the biggest names in sports betting are included in the nine operators that will be available to NY bettors in 2022. However, there were some notable omissions as well.
So where does Barstool fit into all of this?
Unfortunately no - or not yet at least.
Barstool was not one of the four sportsbooks approved for the NY sports betting launch day on January 8. Neither is it one of the five that have been pre-approved to launch this year. This came as a surprise to many, as Barstool Sports does appear to be an excellent fit for the landscape of New York sports betting.
Just because Barstool Sports isn’t live and legally available in New York state right now, doesn’t mean that it won’t be sometime in the future. However, given that a total of nine sportsbooks will be available in New York come the end of 2022, the prospect of us seeing Barstool Sports available sometime this year does look slim. That being said, we wouldn’t totally rule it out.
The most likely scenario is that we could see Barstool Sports become legal in New York sometime in early 2023. We should stress though, that nothing is guaranteed. In the meantime though, there are some great alternative online sportsbooks available to you in NY right now.
Barstool Sports might not be legal yet, but there are four NY sportsbooks that are live right now, with another five coming very soon.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best alternative New York betting sites that you can sign up for today:
