Do you look good in green and white? If so, you’ll fit in nicely on any Saturday afternoon when the Michigan State Spartans are playing a home game. There’s nothing like Big 10 football.

Here’s a guide to visiting Spartan Stadium, located on the campus of MSU.

Spartan Stadium: The Heart of Michigan State Football

Spartan Stadium, located in East Lansing, is one of the most electric places to watch college football in the Midwest. As a football fan from Michigan, I can tell you that attending a game there isn’t just about the action on the field—it’s about the whole experience, from the journey to the roar of 75,000 fans clad in green and white.

Traveling to Spartan Stadium

Getting to Spartan Stadium is relatively easy:

  • If you're coming from the Detroit area, take I-96 west to Lansing, then hop onto I-496 and follow the signs for MSU.
  • For those coming from the north or west, I-69 or I-96 will get you there smoothly.

Parking can be a bit of a challenge on game days, so my advice is to arrive early and grab a spot on campus. If you're lucky, you’ll find a spot in one of the tailgating lots.

Trust me, the tailgating culture is a huge part of the Spartan game-day experience—brats, burgers, and cold beverages are staples as fans prep for the showdown.

Atmosphere and Seating for MSU Spartan Games

Once you’re inside Spartan Stadium, it’s a sea of green and white with an undeniable buzz. Built in 1923, Spartan Stadium is one of those classic college venues where you can feel the history the minute you walk in.

  • The upper decks offer a panoramic view of the field.
  • The lower bowl seating makes the action feel like it’s right in front of you.
  • The student section, known as “The Deep End,” is always in full force, making life difficult for opposing teams.

Watching a night game at Spartan Stadium is something special. With the stadium lights on and the Michigan fall air crisp, you get chills even before the first snap.

The Spartans’ fight song, "Victory for MSU," blares through the speakers as the team charges onto the field, setting the tone for what’s always a hard-nosed, physical battle.

Historic Moments and Players from Spartan Football

Spartan Stadium has been the site of many iconic games over the years:

  • The "Little Giants" game in 2010 against Notre Dame, where Michigan State executed a gutsy fake field goal in overtime.
  • The 2015 "Miracle at Michigan," when MSU blocked a punt in the final seconds to stun the Wolverines at the Big House.

While the latter game took place in Ann Arbor, the celebrations in East Lansing were legendary.

Many greats have graced the field at Spartan Stadium, from NFL stars like Kirk Cousins to College Football Hall of Famers like Bubba Smith and Lorenzo White. These players helped cement Michigan State’s reputation as a football powerhouse.

Spartan Stadium isn't just a place to watch a football game; it's where Spartan legends are born.
