With three more weeks left in the baseball regular season, teams in contention are playing hard trying to fight for the remaining wild card spots, while the teams out of contention are looking toward next year.
For DFS purposes, look to choose your lineup with bats that have a little extra motivation with playoff seeding on the line in the remaining weeks. Today’s rosters I like are the Astros who are facing the Rangers (Arihara 5.89 ERA), the Athletics vs. Royals (Minor, 5.05 ERA), and the Dodgers at home tonight vs. the Dbacks (Urias 2.98ERA).
Rogers (7-7) vs. Rogers (1-0)
Both teams are out of the playoff hunt but I like the Marlins in this matchup with Trevor Rodgers on the mound. He has had a solid season going 7-7 with a 2.73 ERA.
Pick: Marlins Win
Woodruff (9-8) vs. Manning (3-6)
The Brewers should bounce back after yesterday’s loss with Woodruff on the mound.
Pick: Brewers Win
Wacha (3-4) vs. Ray (11-5)
Two of the best hitting teams in baseball square off in the rubber match today. Robbie Ray is on the mound for the Blue Jays at home which should give the Jays the upper hand.
Pick: Blue Jays Win
Houck (0-4) vs. Gonzales (8-5)
Another rubber match game that I like Seattle to take is that they are at home and swinging the bats very well over the last few weeks.
Pick: Mariners Win
Gutierrez (9-6) vs. Keller (4-11)
The Reds need the win today to stay in contention in the NL wild-card chase after dropping the game yesterday to the Pirates. I like them to bounce back today.
Pick: Pirates Win
Mills (6-6) vs. Suarez (6-4)
The Cubs have been playing well over the last month and upset the Phillies in yesterday’s matchup. They need the win today to keep pace in the NL wild card chase as well.
Pick: Phillies Win
Cortes (2-2) vs. Means (5-7)
The Yankees have played well the past couple of days after going through a rough stretch that saw them lose the lead in the wild card. The Yankees should put up plenty of runs on the Orioles pitching tonight.
Pick: Yankees Win
Lester (5-6) vs. Megill (3-4)
This should be a close game as both teams are fighting for the last NL wild card spot and match up well with one another. I like the Mets to win todays game.
Pick: Mets Win
Senzatela (4-9) vs. Ynoa (4-5)
The Braves lost a close game to the Rockies yesterday and have Ynoa starting today so they should get the win at home today.
Pick: Braves Win
Quantrill (5-3) vs. Jax (3-3)
These teams split yesterday’s doubleheader and with Quantrill on the mound today he should give the Indians the edge over the shaky Twins pitching staff.
Pick: Indians Win
Urquidy (6-6) vs. Arihara (2-3)
The Rangers put up some big numbers in yesterday’s win vs. the Astros, but they have been too inconsistent all year and they should come back to reality with a loss to the Astors with Urquidy on the hill.
Pick: Astros Win
Manaea (9-9) vs. Minor (8-12)
The Royals were another team that upset a playoff-contending team yesterday but bad teams like the Royals have a difficult time putting together back-to-back days and the A’s should take this matchup with Manaea on the bump.
Pick: Athletics
Angels vs. White Sox
Junk (0-1) vs. Keuchel (8-9)
The White Sox are playing good baseball and could be a real player to win the American League. This could be a high scoring game but the White Sox should prevail.
Pick: White Sox Win
Musgrove (10-9) vs. Leone (3-3)
The Giants go for the sweep today as the Padres may be on the outside looking in come playoff time. The Padres have the better pitching matchup today and I like them to get the win today.
Pick: Padres Win
Kelly (7-9) vs. Urias (17-3)
The Dodgers need to keep winning to stay on pace with the Giants as both teams desperately want to avoid the one-game wildcard.
Pick: Dodgers
