While DraftKings is the main site that has been hit, there are also reports of FanDuel hacks having taken place. If you think you’re account might have been hacked, don’t worry, as we will explain what to do.
Hacks can be frightening, but the experts here at CaptainGambling have got your back. You simply need to follow the advice contained within this article and take a look at some of the safe alternatives that we have recommended.
On Monday, November 21st, DraftKings and FanDuel both reported an increase in unauthorized activity happening on their sites. DraftKings was the worst hit, with an estimated $300,000 thought to have been withdrawn from customer accounts.
There’s not quite as much worry for FanDuel account holders. Although there have been alarms raised over unauthorized activity, no customer funds are reported to have been withdrawn.
The hacks haven’t actually happened on the sportsbook and DFS sites themselves. Instead, it is thought that the login information has been obtained via a hack that took place on other websites.
The hackers have then been able to use this information to log into FanDuel and DraftKings users’ accounts. Additionally, they have also been able to bypass DraftKings 2FA (two-factor authentication) and alter login details in some cases.
If you are a FanDuel account holder, be that for the sportsbook, DFS, or both, there is probably no need to panic. However, you should follow these steps as soon as possible:
The first thing that you need to do is log in to your FanDuel account and check if you have been hacked. Remember that the signs might not be as obvious as unusual deposits and withdrawals. Check that your details, such as your email and phone number have not been changed.
Regardless of whether your Fanduel account was hacked or not, you should change your login details. Simply enable a Fanduel change password protocol. Make your new password completely different from your current one and ensure that it is as strong as possible.
If you have been hacked, or think that you might have been, then gather the evidence via screenshots and contact FanDuel customer support. Just be aware that you may have to wait a while for a response. At the time of writing, FanDuel has 12 hour wait time for a first response due to the hack.
