PlayNow is the betting site owned and operated by the British Columbia Lottery Association (BCLA). It’s currently legal in British Columbia and Manitoba provinces only.
Parlay betting and single-event betting are both available. We’re going to take a closer look at PlayNow and let you know what you can expect from a PlayNow Ontario in the future.

The PlayNow website is protected throughout by SSL encryption, as indicated by the padlock icon ahead of the URL. It has opted for a standard white and blue theme with plenty of information on the homepage and no annoying adverts.
Navigating between pages can be a little tricky to start with, but it doesn’t take long to find your way around. The sportsbook platform is nicely laid out and very intuitive. Even a complete beginner would have no trouble at all in finding an event and placing a bet.
The payment methods, limits and T&Cs we have detailed in this section apply only to British Columbia and Manitoba. You will need to check with the PlayNow Ontario sportsbook if it launches.
The minimum deposit you can make is $5. In addition, the maximum deposit accepted in a 7-day period is $100,000 maximum. If you are going to be depositing more than $1,000, you will need to change the settings in your account accordingly, or the deposit will be rejected.
The following payment methods are available:
Withdrawals can only be made to a bank account in the name of the PlayNow account holder. This could be different though for a PlayNow Ontario sportsbook. There are a few things you should be aware of in advance:
Below are the current customer support options for PlayNow, the details might change if the site launches in Ontario.
Email replies may take up to 10 working days.
The telephone number and the live chat icon can be found on the bottom left of the web page and are also accessible from the Help section of the website.
The current site is licensed and operated by the provincial government of British Columbia. However, further licensing may be required if a PlayNow Ontario sportsbook is launched.
On the left of the sports betting platform, you’ll find a list of all the sports and events you can bet on. At the very top you’ll see any current event specials, like the Super Bowl or the FA Cup, followed by the top US sports and leagues.
Below that, there are another 27 sports categories to explore, political bets and novelties. There’s a decent selection of markets, especially for the most popular sports and leagues like the NFL, the NBA and Premier League soccer. You can also access detailed team stats to help you along.
When compared against some popular US sportsbooks, the odds were average or below, but that is not a true indicator at present.
It’s also something of a moot point, as there is no competition. However, if there is a PlayNow Ontario app in the future, it may have to make its odds a little sharper to stand up to being the best sportsbook in Ontario, like others that are poised and ready to go.
You’ll find that the odds are displayed in decimal format by default. However, you can switch from decimal and view them as American or fractional odds whenever you want. You’ll find the dropdown menu for this right at the bottom of the page, on the left hand side.
We didn’t spot any enhanced odds when we completed our review, but we did note that the odds available for the top sports are more competitive in general.
No maximum bet amount is stated in the T&Cs and we have not found it elsewhere on the website.
PlayNow does cap winnings per 24-hour period, so the maximum payout you can receive is $200,000 for sports bets or $50,000 for novelty bets. The T&Cs state that there are no exceptions to this policy and that it is your responsibility to place bets appropriately.
There is live betting, but no live streaming available currently. Some sports have an electronic scoreboard, but this may suffer from delays in certain circumstances.
Placing a live bet is just as easy as placing a pre-event bet. However, we did note that the sports betting platform can be a little sluggish at times, so last second bets are not recommended.
For the moment, you’ll have to be patient, as there has been no announcement confirming if there will be a PlayNow Ontario sportsbook, or when. Whilst we’ve only been able to tell you about how PlayNow operates in British Columbia and Manitoba, we’re sure to hear if there are any updates on Ontario online casinos.
There’s a lot of excitement in Ontario right now about the legalization of single-event sports betting, but it’s not available just yet. If you want to see which operators will be going live first, then be sure to head over to CaptainGambling.com for your answers.
The regulations applied to online sportsbook operators are defined by each province or territory. If you are keen to know anything about the anticipated PlayNow Ontario sportsbook, or how a PlayNow Ontario app will function, then be sure to read our PlayNow review here at CaptainGambling.com.
Some of the best online gambling sites in Ontario will go live on 4 April. However, not all of the operators due to launch have released details of what will be on offer when they do. Keep checking back with us at CaptainGambling.com often and we’ll keep you updated.
PlayNow is highly-secure, licensed and reliable. In that respect it would easily match up to the FanDuel Ontario online casino sites we’ve reviewed. There’s plenty of information available for new and existing customers, although it can be tricky to navigate to exactly what you want as there is so much of it.
No details regarding the site becoming available in Ontario so far, but if rumors are true, you could be hearing news about a PlayNow sign up offer Ontario in the not-too-distant future. Not only that, it will have to compete against big offers like the BetMGM Ontario promo code, so it might even be of more value to you than we have suggested here.
