A same game parlay is one of the most popular ways to bet on sports in the US and the rest of the world. They are very easy to understand too.
To make it even easier, today at Captain Gambling we will be breaking down same game parlays so you know exactly how to bet and gain an edge on the bookies.
A same game parlay is a bet that combines multiple potential outcomes from one given game or event into one big bet. In the same fashion as a regular parlay, if one pick doesn’t hit, you lose.
The term ‘same game parlay’ or ‘SGP’ isn’t the only way in which this type of bet is referred to. A lot of different bookies have different names for this type of bet. Some of these include:
If you see anything along these lines, it is likely referring to what we call a ‘same game parlay’. They are very popular as they allow you to create monster bets from a single game. Or craft the exact outcome you see happening.
The possibilities are almost endless at the top sportsbooks as they have so many different markets available.
The better question to ask is what sports don’t have same game parlay markets. All of your favorite sports should have bet builder offerings, at least at the elite level. We can guarantee that you’ll be able to craft these bets on the following competitions:
These are just the ones that spring to mind too. Chances are, if it’s an elite sporting competition, you’ll be able to run same game parlays on it.
Right, you now know what a same game parlay is, so the next thing to think about is strategy. Picking same game parlays is a recipe for disaster without strategy.
A lot of the strategy we use is based on having knowledge on the sport and using that to make predictions that coincide with one another. If you don’t already have a working knowledge of the sport you’re betting on, building same game parlays can be difficult and confusing. Use these strategies and do some research.
The strategies we mention here can be utilized by anyone, whether you have no knowledge or plenty.
With American football you’ll have a big selection of markets to choose from when it comes to bet builders. Whether it be amount of passes made, over/under passing yards, player receiving yards, player to be sacked, whatever you can think of, chances are you can bet it.
The strategy we like to use is heavily based around the quarterback. Let’s use the Super Bowl champions as an example here.
If you were betting on the KC Chiefs to win, the chances are the quarterback will be throwing a lot of successful passes and the receivers will have strong receiving yards too. In the game of American football, there are other ways to score than through long pass plays but that is the most likely.
So if you were looking at the Chiefs to win, you would then combine it with the QB of the day (most likely Patrick Mahomes) to have over x amount of yards made with passes and then one of the receivers to have over x amount of receptions.
If the Chiefs are to win, it is likely that these things also happen so it just enhances your odds.
With soccer, the kind of things you can bet on are:
Soccer has one of the widest bet builder markets of any sport so this is just scraping the surface, but if you learn how to utilize these markets then you’ll be set to start playing.
You’ll want to look out for trends based on positions.
In soccer, the left back defends the right winder and vice versa on the other side, so if the right back commits a lot of fouls and the left winder gets fouled a lot, then you can use both of these selections.
This way, you are essentially betting on one outcome but with two different odds to add to the bet builder.
The same goes for shots on target and goalkeeper saves, a shot on target only counts if it is saved by the keeper or blocked off the line. So if you’re banking on a player to get shots on target, you can match it up with the opposite keeper to make a few saves.
It’s all about finding these pairs.
The same kind of thing applies with basketball betting, you’ll want to look into matchups. The best players are always likely to score points in great quantities but if they are playing against an out of form opponent they could score more.
The main elements to bet on in the sport of basketball are:
With basketball same game parlays it tends to be player prop markets that are the most popular to combine. It once again comes down to how you think the game will pan out. So if you’re betting on the Milwaukee Bucks, you might think Giannis will be grabbing rebounds and feeding Lillard for threes.
So you could combine a Bucks win with Lillard threes made and Giannia rebounds to make a strong SGP.
If the Bucks were playing a weak opponent, you could also throw in a leg that’s based around their winning margin or the amount of points they score. This will boost the odds even further and give you a larger payout.
You may have heard the terms ‘parlay insurance’ or ‘acca insurance’ before. This isn’t some kind of insurance policy that you pay for, don’t worry. It’s much simpler than that. Some sportsbooks offer a small payout to near-miss parlays.
For example:
You can then try your luck again. It’s not as good as winning the bet but it is something to make you feel a tad better after a marginal loss.
Same game parlays are an extremely fun bet type, especially if you’re watching the game you’re betting on. It can give the game another level of entertainment and have you looking at the stats sheet to track your bets.
But there are a few cons too, here is our pros and cons of SGPs.
